Dano asked me about doing a Kubrick Poll a while back, so here it is. I've not included in this list 3 early short Documentary's that Kubrick directed, just his features.
I like all his films to lesser or greater degrees, but I love 2001 beyond all reason, and it never fails to have a huge emotional effect on me when I watch it. Which is often.
I would say the top five is something like:
1. 2001 2. Dr. Strangelove 3. The Shining 4. Clockwork Orange 5. Full Metal Jacket
I like Barry Lyndon, but it seldom gets gets shown the DVD player.
Tough one. I went for a Clockwork Orange mainly cos it has one of my favourite opening shots ever, along woth Blade Runner. The slow pull out form Malcolm Mcdowell's face with that amazing synth music, very cool. 2001 is a very close second.
Thanks for the nod Andrew. I thought long and hard because i'm such a Kubrick superfan. I decided i can only live in the present and right now my favorite is Barry Lyndon. Its switched back and forth from The Shining to Clockwork to Lyndon. Lyndon it is.
I voted for Paths of Glory. Even though I'm a H U G E 2001 nut, I love Paths, it's a superb film, but this is also very hard to vote on because he did so many great films.
I guess I'm the only one who went with The Killing? It is hard to pick a favourite really, but I love crime, and having Jim Thompson on the writing team makes it a must for me. Some fantastic performances too.

Predictably, being predominantly an sf fan, I voted for "2001" but I also rate "Lolita", "Dr. Strangelove" and "The Shining" very highly, too.
I went for Dr Strangelove as I got spoiled for choice. Can it be top 5 fave films?
