Stranded (2002)

This film cost a whopping 810 million to make, luckily that was pesetas and not dollars. Stranded cost around $4-5m depending on where the information is printed, and was directed by María Lidón who made the film using the name Luna.
Shot on location in Lanzarote and Hollywood the film also re-used the space shuttle interior set from Space Cowboys directed by Clint Eastwood, this help keep the costs down.

Plot Summary
A team of astronauts on the first mission to Mars crashes onto the surface, losing contact with Earth. With no other recourse, and help millions of miles away, the crew is forced to make desperate choices in order to stay alive. Will they be able to survive as the minutes slip away?
IMDB

The film stars Vincent Gallo and Maria de Medeiros (Pulp Fiction) as part of the 7 man crew seen in the film. Performance wise the film is a mixed back, director María Lidón also plays one of the stranded astronauts, her performance is pretty poor, but otherwise I'd say Stranded is a nicely made short movie, and I enjoyed this more than the much bigger budgeted Red Planet and Mission to Mars.
At 95 minutes long Stranded in my opinion is worth a watch, and should be fairly cheap to pick up on Amazon.

I seen this film a few years back, really enjoyed it.But you're right about the acting.

I can get past stiff acting if the story is engaging. With all of the top notch actors in the other two Mars movies, I just couldn't get into either one. I really like Gary Sinise, but I ended up fast forwarding through the movie. I'll have to check out Stranded.

I like the cast in this one, I may have to see it. Smart idea using the space cowboys set, it was a nice (although huge) mock up of the shuttle.
