Ridley Scott plans third sci-fi film - UPDATE

Ridley Scott has revealed that he intends to make a third science fiction film.
The British filmmaker directed the acclaimed sci-fi films Alien and Blade Runner, but hasn't worked in the genre for over 25 years.
In an interview with Eclipse, Scott said: "I am going to do one. I waited for a book for 20 years and I have got the book. I am not going to tell you what the book is but that film is going to probably be written within the next month.
"That will definitely be what I do next after Nottingham, the Robin Hood film that I am doing now in England."
Scott's next film A House Of Lies - starring Leonardo Di Caprio and Russell Crowe - is scheduled for release later in the year.

This in my opinion is great news, the guy made two of the best Sci-Fi movies ever that stand there amongst the all time classics, I'd love to know what book he's filming. I hope he gets Ron Cobb and Syd Mead onboard as concept artists !

UPDATE.
The rumours I've read say that the film could be possibly be a film version of Aldous Huxley's Brave New World, which has already had TV versions filmed in 1980 and 1998. Wiki has this listed and says Ridley Scott, Leonardo Di Caprio are collaborating.
The other talk is that it's Orson Scott Card's 1985 SF novel Ender's Game, which features an insectoid alien race known as the 'Buggers' :)
There was talk of Wolfgang Peterson directing this though until a few years ago.

Good interview with him in last Saturday's Guardian TV guide. In it, he pretty much stated he had no real interest in SF until HEAVY METAL, especially seeing Moebius' work.

So this book he waited twenty years to get the rights to... Wonder if it's THE INCAL?

Look forward to seeing it though the intervening time may make a difference to the style of a new Ridley Scott SF venture in the same way Graeme Harper's style has changed on "Doctor Who" since the Eighties.

After watching my Alien DVD extras and Dangerous days last week (I'd watched a documentary on BBC4 about his ad days and felt inspired to have a Scott-fest) I was totally blown away by his storyboards for both films, the Moebius influence was definitely there. Till then, I'd assumed he was a great director who had dipped his toes into sci fi, after seeing those boards I realise just how steeped he was in the genre at that moment in time.

Here's hoping he doesn't get too enamoured with the capabilities of CG like certain other past masters...

Well, I hope it's up there with Alien and Blade Runner (I agree they are definitely two of the best SF films ever made). I don't really like the stuff Ridley has directed in recent years e.g. Gladiator. Yuk! So I hope the new one is a return to form for Senor Scott.

Wow this is great news!

Incal would be amazing especially is he got moebius on board. I think Brave New World could be great also.

It's a pity he seems to have forgotten how to direct in the last 20 years. Haven't seen anything from him lately that I've liked.

His first 4 were amazing though.

By Odin I hope so!

Something to look forward to, Scott's recent films have certainly seen him tackle the actors side of things more so than his lavish visuals but Black Hawk Down is certainly up there as one of the great visual war films, hopefully his return to sci fi can be as iconic as his early films

I don't know why Scott always gets criticised for the acting side of things in his earlier films. I still think that the acting in Alien and Blade Runner is better than in any of his other films. I agree his newer films leave more space for the actor's performance but I think what you end up with is typical "hollywood" type performances, whereas Alien and BR were much more nuanced.

I think Scott's earlier films pretty much reflects the style of a lot of great directors first efforts, they take risks, I'd have to agree with Alien mind Dylan, It's still at the top for me the chest burster scene and the only one who new what was going to happen was Hurt, everyone improvised in that scene which made it so real, but the details like Hurt twitching after his death was one of the most mesmerising scenes for me in film history

I've read online that it is Brave New World that he's going to be filming.
