In 1964 a young lad named Mike Trim followed an ad for model-makers in film and television, little realising he was embarking on a life-long career which would be hugely influential on many others. Mike worked on Gerry Anderson’s shows which have probably the most iconic, not to mention detailed, imaginative and downright cool designs ever (which is why we still can’t get enough of merchandise from Thunderbirds, UFO and others even today). After going freelance Mike worked on a diverse range of projects, most famously the cover painting for one of the best-selling albums of all time, Jeff Wayne’s musical version of War of the Worlds, with the now-classic image of the warship Thunder Child battling a Martian fighting machine.
