The Humanoid

Released in 1979 and Directed by Aldo Lado, The Humanoid was one of just many films to cash in on the success of Star Wars. The film stars Richard Kiel, Jaws from The Spy Who Loved Me and Moonraker as the Humanoid of the films title. Also starring Barbara Bach, also from The Spy Who Loved Me, Arthur Kennedy, Leonard Mann, Corrine Clery and Ivan Rassimov.
The Star Wars similarities are far too numerous to name, but a main villian with a black outfit and Vader-esque helmet, a desert planet with floating vehicles, cute robotic characters are just a few off the top of my head, but as you can see from the pics attached there are many others.
The music for the movie is by Ennio Morricone of The Good, the Bad and the Ugly fame. Visual Fx work was done by Armando Valcauda, Paolo Zeccaro of Starcrash fame, and by Spanish FX genius Emilio Ruiz del Rio who did the spectacular foreground miniatures for Conan the Barbarian, Dune, Red Sonja. http://tinyurl.com/mcl3o
I have a love for cheesy Sci-Fi films, they're just so much fun, they seem even better when they're Italian like The Humanoid or Starcrash !

Oh wow! I love Humanoid, or at least the memory I have of it from my childhood. My Dad took me and my brother to see it at the ABC on Linthorpe Road as part of a double bill with Thief of Baghdad.
I was blown away to be watching, as far as my small child brain was concerned, another Star Wars movie.
I saw this at the same place and era I saw Flash Gordon, Clash of the Titans and many other classics and can't help but feel they helped build my love for the cinema of the fantastic and cheesy.
I'd love to see it again, but at the same time really don't want to shatter the jumbled blur of brilliance I have nestling in my memories.
Maybe one day I'll see it in the bargain bin at Asda and pick it up...

Are you sure it wasn't the Odeon Cinema on Corporation Road with a double bill with 7th Voyage of Sinbad ?

Wow, I was just trying to convince my wife this film existed (couldn't remember the title), I saw it in the local pub in Thornley (small N.E. village) which sort seems appropriate now
