Star Wars: The Old Republic - Cinematic

This cinematic is for the new Star Wars game Star Wars: The Old Republic, very slick animation, but according to the site for the game, this is set 3500 years before the rise of Darth Vader, looking at this it would seem technological advances move at an infinitesimal level in the Star Wars universe, we've got spaceships, attack craft, lasers, rocket packs, holographic displays etc... and in 3500+ years nothing seems to have changed, even Coruscant looks the same, didn't they have any different architects in that city for all that time ?! :)

It certainly looks interesting -- and should attract players back from the exodus caused by the terrible Star Wars Galaxies.

I must be honest, I'm getting a little tired of yet another Star Wars game. Familiarity breeds contempt I guess. I'd much rather have something fresh.

More of the same. I'm much more interested in Han Solo, smugglers and the Falcon than the Jedi, Councils and Chosen Ones.

I think I speak for many when I say mmmmmnnggghhh!

Yeah, the thing that's spoiled Star Wars is the Jedi, they were such a small part of the original trilogy, now the various comics, books, games, animated TV shows etc... have Sith popping up all over the place with their gas masked faces or weird facial tatoo's, and flipping through the air fighting the Jedi, week in week out, it's become very dull for those reasons !! I prefer the smuggler's or the Imperial Navy type stories by far, the Jedi have outlived their welcome !!

Hey Andrew, any info on the Total Recall remake?

Not much more than I posted back in Feb, except that Kurt Wimmer who did Ultra Violet is writing the screenplay, not a great choice, and like the Short Circuit remake the filmakers plan to 'contemporize' the story, well I suppose it makes a change from re-booting it !! :)
Hollywood's newest word is "Contemporize" !

Uncle Miggsy prefers the more beat-up looking Star Wars Universe shown in the original film. Everything on Tattooine looked like it was going to fall apart if it was looked at wrong.

And on top of all of this...my son brought home a library book on the clone wars and one of the clone troopers was holding his gun on it's side like he was a gangsta'. I cna see it now...Star Wars the Thug Years!

In terms of 3500 - there are a great many things that effect progress. Star Wars always looked recycled - lived in - who's to say it wasn't civilization across the stars picking itself up and dusting itself off at that point following some major regressive event that occurred in the interim? Technology in our world has moved at a snails pace over 2000 years. It's only in the last couple of hundred years that we've really made any substantial technological advances. When man first set foot on the moon we perceived interstellar passenger flight by the year 2001!

There are plenty of good authors out there who have created literary universes that, in my opinion, would make fantastic transitions to the big screen. All it would take is someone with pockets huge and balls large.

Then again Star Wars is the great merchandising cash cow, so I don't think we'll see a 'Gridlinked' or 'Mindstar Rising' movie anytime soon.
Shame.
