Snyder eyes 'Dark Knight Returns' movie

Visionary Director Zack Snyder has revealed that he wants to adapt Frank Miller's comic book The Dark Knight Returns into a feature film.

Snyder, who helmed a film version of Miller's 300 and upcoming comic movie Watchmen, told iFMagazine that he has asked studio Warner Bros about creating a big screen adaptation of the story, which focuses on an ageing Bruce Wayne as he comes out of retirement to defend Gotham City for a final time.

"I said I'm interested in Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns," he commented. "That's really my favourite comic book."

The director admitted that his chances of making the movie are slim as it is likely to conflict with Warner Bros's Christian Bale-led Batman series.

"The studio has this massive franchise and I don't think they'll let me make a Batman movie where he's 50 years old and Ronald Reagan is President," he said.

It would be really nice to see, but as the man says ...

It was my first proper "graphic novel", thanks to a comic shop on the way home from work to my digs in Hull.

Just in case anyone has not heard this: the Judge looking at the legal ownership dispute over The Watchmen movie between Warners (who've made it with Snyder) and Fox (who previously had an option / dev deal) has actually found in Fox's favour.

We won't know til the New Year what that really means for the film - which seems all but finished - but it's a bit of a shocker as Fox have apparently said they want to shut it down...or something.

Just FYI.

Won't mean much in terms of the movie's launch date (anything effecting launch would have damage implications thrown back at Fox wouldn't it?). What it may mean is that the threat of a 'sequel' would be quashed. And that can only be a good thing right?

As for Dark Knight Returns. Hey ho. If that means another graphic novel enters the top 100 then I'm backing that horse.

It would be interesting to see how casting would go...

Eastwood as Bruce Wayne, perhaps...
Jennette McCurdy as Robin...
Rudolf Martin as Joker...
