One Star Movies

The most overrated movie of all time The Godfather (1972)

Utter rubbish The Shawshank Redemption (1994)

This is one of the worst films I have ever seen Schindler's List (1993)

In 1941....perhaps a classic, but today....BORING Citizen Kane (1941)

Do not waste your time and money going to see this awful film WALL-E (2008)

Special effects that were so bad they had to be cleaned up in 1997 Star Wars (1977)

My money back please Fellowship of the Ring (2001)

What a waste of good material and fine actors Se7en (1995)

Terrible sequel to a 'better' film Aliens (1986)

Before anyone has a go at me, these aren't my opinions.
Occasionally I head over to the IMDB, go to reviews pages and click on the option for 'Hated it' to see why some people think some of the finest films deserve just one star. It really is amazing some of the stuff people put. I think the ones that annoy me most are the ones that say stuff like DO NOT SEE THIS FILM or DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS RUBBISH, they're always in block capitals. I really don't like being told what to see and what not too. Although I wasn't a huge fan of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and friends new it I didn't attempt to put anyone off from seeing it on the big screen and making up their own minds.
So find your favourite film, head over to the IMDB reviews and find out why somebody thought it was a load of crap. :)

I was a bit shocked when I started reading what was written here...til I got to the comment about Star Wars and realized that you couldn't POSSIBLY be the author.

It is amazing how some people can really hate, and I mean HATE, a movie. I think Roger Ebert helps to fuel this kind of talk when he publishes books called "YOUR MOVIE SUCKS" and "I HATED, HATED, HATED THIS MOVIE". Yet I do believe he authored "Valley of the Dolls 2". A lot of people will simply repeat what he has said (or what other critics say) just to sound like they know what they are talking about.

Whew. Had me worried there for a second.

It also really bothers me when people LOVE LOVE LOVE a movie just because someone who seems to know what they're talking about said they loved it.

Bottom line: Make up your own mind, and let others do the same.

That's why I rarely take notice of reviews, but sometimes look at the percentage votes for a film on IMDB, because you know that's more of a good cross section of the general movie going public, so when a film like WALL-E gets a User Rating of 8.9/10 from 35,821 votes and it's already a film that I like the look of then there's a fair chance I'll like it and it's worth while me catching at the cinema.
I hated Aliens vs Predator:Requiem yet there are people who gave this film 10 starts on IMDB, with claims that it's much better than any other Alien film or Predator, now I think those people might needs their heads looking at but hey it's their opinion and who am I to try and change it !!??

Thought I'd check out for myself films which I am usually in the minority for loving and found these gems -

'Awful. Absolute teen rubbish.'
The Blair Witch Project

'What a stupid flick! This one really sucks! And it condones gay bashing.'
The Talented Mr Ripley

And yes, enough with the caps lock warnings against the evil of these films!
By the way Andrew, did you catch the One Man Star Wars at the Arc the other night? Great stuff.

I suppose you can't please everybody no matter how good someone thinks a movie is. Look at Titanic, huge Box Office that I don't think any film will beat for a long time, but most people seem to hate it.

There's no right or wrong when it comes to opinions, except those comments were all quite clearly wrong.
