Original 1986 Trailer
I remember seeing Troll on VHS back around 1986, it was essentially a kids film but in the UK it was a 15 certificate on Video.
Plot Synopsis
Torok is an ancient troll, and he is using the body of Wendy Anne to disguise himself, in order to take over an apartment building. Wendy's newly moved family is just settling in, and while her parents suspect nothing, her brother Harry notices a change in her behavior instantly. Using an emerald ring, Torok transforms the residents into plant pods and plans to restore his old world in which he once lived in many years ago. We soon discover Torok is the ex-husband of Eunice St. Clair, a resident in the building who was married to Torok long ago before he became his transformed self.
IMDB
The film starred Noah Hathaway and Michael Moriarty as Harry Potter Jr. and Harry Potter Sr. Maybe JK Rowling was a fan of this film !? Also starring are Shelley Hack, Jenny Beck, Sonny Bono, Phil Fondacaro, June Lockhart, Anne Lockhart and Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Elaine from Seinfeld) in her first film. It was directed by FX man John Carl Buechler, who worked on lots of Charles Band productions in the 80's and 90's. It's a long time since I've seen it but I remember it being one of Empire Pictures better efforts at the time.
Now there's been mention of a $25 million remake of Troll, to be directed again by John Carl Buechler and featuring original cast members Noah Hathaway and Phil Fondacaro.
Buechler says "It's a retelling of the original story with some twists."
He's in talks to cast Ali Lohan, Lindsey's younger sister as Eunice St Clair, who helps battle the evil Torok the Troll.
There's a website set up for the film and they've placed a disclaimer stating that this film has nothing to do with JK Rowlings Harry Potter stories

An obvious cash in.
you don't happen to know the name of the movie where someone draws a comic book with a monster in it and the monster comes to life killing people? It was an eighties VHS monster flick.
That was also by John Carl Buechler and called "Cellar Dweller" it was made in 1988.
......Troll......
I remember Cellar Dweller.
I remember I was bummed out when the guy from Head of the Class was killed.
I remember I was unable to recognise Jeffrey Combs in any film where he didn't wear glasses.
I really enjoyed Cellar Dweller. You can watch it in eight parts here:

I was drawing late last night when suddenly these phantom bowmen showed up in my garden...
I'll give it a watch, never actually seen it, though I did always like the look of the creature.John Carl Buechler has been doing creature FX for quite a few years now, I think he got his first break on Jason of Star Command.
Cheers Ian.
Hey Nik, good to see you posting again, and good to see you have a new blog !!! Cool !
I seen this years ago on VHS, I'm sure they did a Troll 2 also.
hat I know Troll 2 has nothing to do with Troll, I think it's Italian, it's certainly not any sort of sequel.
