For anyone who's never seen it The Winston Effect is a superb history of Stan Winston's work. An awesome book full of great pics of his studio etc...

I got a real shock at the news, Stan really was the godfather of film effects. I've been in total awe of his work for about 30 years.

A truly great cinematic talent and one of those who created special effects that rivalled cgi in one important respect: they were achieved with humanity and were, in consequence, not just believable but also emotionally engaging...
