Sacha Baron Cohen to play Mercury?

Above - Cohen as Borat

Sacha Baron Cohen is reportedly in talks to play Freddie Mercury in a film about the late Queen singer's life.

The Borat star is said to have replaced Johnny Depp as the frontrunner for the role.

Mercury earned a reputation as one of rock's most charismatic live performers before dying in 1991 of an AIDS-related illness.

An insider told The Mirror: "Filmmakers are working flat out to get the best possible script. Sacha loves the idea he can get away with playing Freddie after modelling Borat's look on him."

Did that sound a little too opinionated? Must remember not to post after drinking vodka. I don't so much hate him, but the whole "Let's embarrass people and laugh at them" has bothered me ever since Candid Camera. There's a guy who played a computer hacker at the beginning of "Swordfish" who looks a lot like Mercury.

I really didn't think I was going to like Borat, but it was genius !! Really loved that film. Sacha's next big role is in Tim Burton's 'Sweeney Todd' with Johnny Depp.

Now THAT I am looking forward to.

He's good but I've heard that this is a rumour that Sacha has denied.

Maybe the makers of the film should do the decent and sensible thing and consult with Brian and Roger before casting anyone to play Freddie!
