Following on from my other post about Star Wars Wallpaper, I've been told about somebody selling a roll over on E-Bay. It makes you wonder who the artist was on a piece like this, I'm sure he was just some employee in the company's art dept, still he did a nice job, I always loved this Wallpaper, I'm tempted to bid.

Check out this gem that I seen in Woolworths today, I don't think Pixar have much to worry about judging by the quality of the CGI.

Synopsis:

Everyone wants to discover the secrets of Marcell Toing's delicious recipes, but they are far from imagining the efforts this extraordinary cook puts into his search for the best ingredients. Every Thursday night, Marcell goes on a mission with his charming assistant Carol and his friend Greg, the worst waiter in town.

The three rats search for fine and rare ingredients that can only be found in restaurants owned by humans... where they face real danger, from rat traps to cat attacks!

The story gets filled with more action and adventure, when a bunch of jealous rats decide to get together and put an end to Ratatoing's culinary success.

Billie Piper to make 'Doctor Who' return?

Billie Piper is on the verge of agreeing a deal with the BBC to reprise the role of Rose Tyler next year.

The News of the World claims that the former companion would return for a three episode arc for the season finale, should Piper accept the offer - reported to be £20,000.

The paper quotes a BBC insider as saying: "We are all very excited that Billie is on course to come back. We're very close to getting her to sign."

Piper left Doctor Who at the end of the second season in the episode 'Doomsday', which saw her character Rose Tyler confined to a parallel Earth with her family and boyfriend Mickey.

They say...

...that old habits die hard. Now I'm not talking about exposing myself in the Lingerie department of Marks and Spencers, besides that CCTV footage was far too grainy to get a positive identification of me, er I mean the culprit. No I'm talking about my collecting of junk. Now when I used to make models this came in useful, though I work mainly in CG these days I still can't give up hoarding interesting bits and pieces.

The picture here is just a small amount of what I collected from our household over a few weeks, everything from plastic milk bottle tops, old used Asthma inhalers, lids off deodorants, I also have been known to ask for empty till rolls if I've seen them by the check out if I'm in a Supermarket. When I worked at the Odeon Cinema they used to keep a box where they cashed up full of the old till rolls for me to take home, and the boxes the unfolded Popcorn Cartons came in had a really sturdy piece of card wedged in about every 50 boxes, again I used to nab these.
It's when I looked at this pile of junk in the corner of my attic from the last few weeks that you really do appreciate just how much packaging etc... goes to waste, or how over packaged products have become. Biscuits which would be fine in a box come in a vac formed plastic container that slides out of the box, the biscuits go in a biscuit barrel and all the packaging gets binned. It's hard to imagine just how much of this type of stuff just the residents of my Street throws out in a week.
Anyway I'm hoping to get some use out of my old junk soon, in the New Year I have a project I'm in the early stages of planning and I want to use a fair bit of real world stuff like props and models as well as CG, so by then I should have a load more junk to work with, to go with my 20 years worth of kit parts etc... :)

Starship Exeter - The Tressaurian Intersection

Now I'm not normally a huge follower of fan made films of things like Star Wars and Star Trek, but the guys who make Starship Exeter really have nailed the look of the original show with their 2nd adventure The Tressaurian Intersection.
In the first adventure The Savage Empire scenes on the bridge were blue screened, now they have a full scale replica of the bridge and other parts of the ship. Sadly it has a few problems performance wise, but I suppose these aren't 100% professionals so they do a good job.
But it's worth a watch. Great FX that really capture the feel of the old 60's Star Trek adventures.

Saw these 4 films yesterday when I was in Woolworths, I'd say that the 48 Weeks later is the cheekiest, I wonder how many people buy this thinking it has something to do with 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later ? "Fright Night" Remake Planned

Yet another film that doesn't need remaking, and if the remake is going in a different direction like the article says then why call it a remake, why not just an original film or a sequel ? Oh well.


Shock Till You Drop reports that Sony's Screen Gems is currently seeking a writer to pen a remake of the 1985 vampire classic Fright Night.

The original followed teenage horror film fan Charley Brewster (William Ragsdale) who believes a vampire (Chris Sarandon) has moved into the large house next door.

He soon seeks the help of veteran vampire movie star Peter Vincent (Roddy McDowall) who, along with his friend and girlfriend, think he's mentally ill. It was successful enough to spawn a sequel in 1988.

Producer Scott Strauss ("Breach"), who was previously attached, apparently wants to take the story in a different direction - one involving an amusement park.

'Lord Of The Flies In Real Life'

I love nonsense like this, when it says the kids were left on their own, yeah left on their own with a camera crew filming them, people seem to forget where the footage is actually coming from. I remember a documentary a few years back with some actress who's meant to be in the middle of nowhere in a tent trying to survive, we get camcorder footage that she's recorded herself just before she goes to sleep for the night, but then from outside we get high quality TV footage of the light in her tent going off, hardly by herself then eh !?

Former cosmonaut Alexei Leonov, the first man to walk in space, with the first UK woman in space Helen Sharman, at the Sheraton Hotel, Edinburgh, to launch the 20th Annual Planetary Congress taking place in the city this week.

The Spaceship Leonov in 2010: The Year We Make Contact was named after the ex Cosmonaut.

Star Wars Wallpaper - 1978

When I was 11 in 1978 I had this Star Wars Wallpaper on just one wall of my tiny Box Room Bedroom, it was probably there for around 6 - 7 years, I recently did a search around to see if I could find any good pics of it, besides the picture of me sat in bed ill reading the latest on Star Trek:The Motion Picture in the new edition of Starburst magazine I could find anything else. Then I was told on a forum by a guy named Andrew March that the factory that made this wallpaper and The Empire Strikes Back wallpaper had burnt down in the 80's, but he thinks his Mam has a couple of unopened rolls of this in her attic. I was also alerted to someone selling it on Ebay along with Empire wallpaper, still wrapped. It was pretty cool wallpaper, I wish I'd got my Mam and Dad to get a few spare rolls too now.

While searching I found this pic of me, again aged 11 with some of my new Star Wars toys. Those being, the Cantina Playset, Darth Vader's Tie Fighter and the X-Wing Fighter, all of these were released in the Uk by Palitoy
Hard to believe this was 29 years ago now,it was so much more fun in the 70's.

The AFI are doing a 40th Anniversary event and screening eleven classic American films. It's interesting to note that Star Wars which will be presented by George Lucas is listed as 121 minutes, that being the length of his original cut, and not his 125 minute Special Edition. I suppose after all how many look upon his later editions as a classic in the same light as his original cut which inspired so many filmakers. ?

This is from the same people who made the CG Animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Gatchaman known to a lot of us as Battle of the Planets, could be a very cool movie indeed.

Come Outside

This letter was in the Sunday Times supplement. Thought it was amusing for anyone who's seen the show.

I can't help but notice Auntie Mabel's disregard for the environment in Come Outside (CBeebies). Whether looking for lost tea towels or visiting mills, Mabel and Pippin the dog shun public transport in favour of a private plane. Greenhouse gases and the price of fuel clearly do not concern this privileged pair.

I'm going to be posting a selection of images featuring various looks into what Earth may look like in the future as seen through the eyes of various filmakers. The first selection of images is from the 1999 movie Bicentennial Man directed by Chris Columbus.







I was surprised how much the images above and below look like the Naboo stuff from The Phantom Menace and also the Galactic Senate Building from the prequels.

I love what some people get to research, and they probably get paid a fortune to come up with what most people may call 'The Bleedin Obvious'

Bet that really took a lot of working out. It's like saying people who step in front of moving traffic are more likely to get run over.
