Starship Troopers: Marauder (2007)

I'm one of very few people who not only love the book of Starship Troopers, it's my favourite SF novel, but also loved the movie too, hell I even liked Starship Troopers 2 which was direct to DVD. Anyway now Casper Van Dien is back as Johnny Rico in Starship Troopers: Marauder, and starring with him is everyone's fave busty Vulcan Jolene Blalock, Sub-Commander T'Pol from Star Trek : Enterprise. The new movie is directed by Robocop and Starship Troopers screenwriter Edward Neumeier in his directorial debut. Visual FX are being supervised by Robert and Dennis Skotak who are providing the miniature work, not sure if Phil Tippet's people are involved with doing the CG creatures this time though. Phil Tippet who supervised CGI on the first film directed the $7 million sequel Starship Troopers 2: Hero of the Federation in 1994, the new film has an estimated budget of $20 Million and has been shooting on location in South Africa for a 2008 release, though I assume it's direct to DVD again.

ooh. I hope we don't have to see his butt again.

What amazed me about the film was how gory it was. It's one of the few movies (the first one, have as of yet to see the sequel) that actually made me squirm in my seat. I think it was the fact that the attacks were so relentless.

I think I mentioned this before, the 2nd film is like an episode from a TV show if there had been a weekly TV show of Starship Troopers, excluding the CGI show they did. I think a lot of people were expecting a big movie and it's a lot more low key than that for sure.

Jolene Blalock is very hot. I'll probably watch this just for her. :)

Ed Neumeier's Robo work was great, Troopers script was darkly funny too, but I pray he can pull this off.
Skotak bros involvement is a huge boon, can't wait to see a foreground hanging minature or a sixth scale gunship. Fingers crossed for this one, and great to see Rico and T'pol on board. Although it's worrying that Craig Hayes and Tippett studio are not involved.

My name's Matt & I'm a STARSHIP TROOPERS movie fan too! But not the second movie-that SUCKED. If only they'd given Tippett 20million bucks instead of 7! I doubt he'll get another chance to direct again after that?
The commentary track with Verhoeven on the DVD of the original movie is hilarious.

Verhoven actually went on to produce the Roughnecks: Starship Troopers CG show.
